As a market research task, I looked into songs that were popular today in our chosen genre indie. The first chart I looked at was iTunes, and unfortunately there wasn't an option for indie so I chose alternative as they are very similar genres and are often combined together. iTunes gave me the option to choose from many countries to look at, and although we're from the UK and making our video here, it was useful to have a look as I could see what songs were popular elsewhere as well as in the UK. I am pleased to see that not only in the UK, but also in the US and Australia there are bands in the top 10 that are in our list of bands to choose from, so it shows we already have a good idea as to what bands are popular in the genre that we have chosen.
The second chart I chose to look at was Radio 1's Indie Chart. I didn't find this one as useful as iTunes because even though this chart classed itself as indie, it didn't quite match the indie genre I had in mind. This is because it consisted of artists like Adele, Example and Wretch 32, and these are artists that we're positive we don't want to use for our inspiration or music video.
Useful research, Meg, well done. It always seems odd that 'INDIE' bands can be so diverse, but of course, it is to do with the record label rather than a 'style'.
ReplyDeleteThe itunes screen grab is more useful; as you say.
