DigiPac Ideas

After some discussions with my target audience, they liked my digipac, but thought the front cover was too plain. I therefore kept the simplicity but added in the title of the album:

Here is what the updated DigiPac looks like:

Digipak and Advert - Final Draft

I have chosen this as my final draft idea for my digipak and poster.
However I have also made two other digipaks and poster combinations that I may consider some features of for my final overall choices.

My Final DRAFT Poster

This is the final draft of my poster advertising The Skeleton Boys album release. I opted for keeping it quite simple, because from my own experience, I know if a poster has a lot of information on it then I am less likely to read it, so such a simple poster could be read more by the public. The repetitive use of "The Skeleton Boys" is to add huge emphasis of who's album it is and to essentially drill the bands name into the consumer's head.

Similar Digipaks To Mine

I have styled the idea for my digipak around the idea of the Arctic Monkey's album Favourite Worst Nightmare. You open one panel, then a second panel to reveal 3 panels and the CD in the middle. I have chosen to do this because I think it's the easiest layout of a digipak to work with and can if you want it can look quite symmetrical- which to me is always a good thing. It was also the easiest layout to work out when I was trying to find out what went where on a six paneled digipak.

Digipak Template

To be able to create the digipak I needed to find a template so I knew what sizes I was to work with and where each panel would go. I did struggle to find one that I though was appropriate for myself, so this would have to do. It has six panels with the back and CD in the middle, however I have changed around some of the panels. I could then use this on Photoshop and create my digipak inside of it.

My Final DRAFT Album Digipak

This is my final draft of my digipak for The Skeleton Boy's album Run. I have tried to use continuity throughout the album by using similar ideas, colours and fonts and each panel. I think the black background and bright colours contrast well because it makes everything in on the panel stand out. I have tried to represent each band member as a skeleton. It should be clear who they are on the front in the order they are standing because that's the order they will always be in when together. I have tried to distinguish Georgia as the female by putting her as red, and the 3 males in more masculine or even unisex colours. However, when the digipak is opened up the first skeleton is Steve, who is blue, because he still needs to be the main focus and stand out the most between him and Georgia. I created it on Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 and I will be honest and say I did struggle. I also tried to incorporate the idea that all other digipaks have, that is a lyric book. However, we obviously don't have enough time to do this so I decided to quite certain songs that are on the album. Even though my skills in the software are miles better than last year when I had never even used it before, there are tasks I still struggle with and to get the best result for my final digipak I am going to make myself practice inbetween the time.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the outcome. However, I feel as though I have gone a completely different way to the rest of my group which shows maybe I haven't researched the genre well enough to create an indie digipak. When it comes to making the final idea, I think I will perhaps try and change this idea by making the inside panels more exciting OR my idea might change to be like the rest of my groups so I go a completely different way and use images of objects, people and the band.

Digipak Drafts

I have created two very similar draft digipaks, this is purely because I cannot decide between the two and would like some peer and teacher feedback! As the deadline is tomorrow I will just post one of these designs with some alterations as my final draft digipak. The post will coinside with the digipak so I will be posting this shortly.
